Location

Hamilton Island is the largest inhabited Island in the Whitsunday Group and is almost halfway between the coastline of Townsville and Mackay in Queensland.

It is,

• 30 minutes by boat from Shute Harbour

• 1 hour 20 minutes from Brisbane by jet

• 2 hours 10 minutes from Sydney by jet

• 3 hours from Melbourne by jet

Climate

The island has a year round tropical climate similar to Honolulu with an average temperature of 27 degrees centigrade.

Travel

Hamilton Island is serviced by JetStar which offers flights from Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Cairns with very competitive pricing. Fantasea Cruises operate 6 services per day from Shute Harbour. Schedules for both JetStar and Fantasea can be obtained from their websites.

The island has a wide range of activities catering to all ages and these include:

Marina

Hamilton Island has a large marina with over 140 berths and branches of hire boat firms Sunsail and Moorings. Also at the marina is the yacht club, bakery, Laundromat and specialty shops.

Dining

Enjoy an extensive range of restaurants and takeaway outlets including Italian, Chinese, Pizza, Seafood and Australian dishes. Full a-la-carte dining or casual takeaway. There is also a liquor shop at the yacht club.

Shopping

There are 20 specialty shops located at the resort center and Marina Village including a general store for food and groceries. There is also a chemist, newsagents and hair salon.

What to bring

Swimming costumes, sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, casual attire for dining out, walking shoes and a light jacket for cooler months.
